He used to dislodge the mountains killing the innocent people of nearby villages. Burning of villages, destruction of agricultural land, of domestic animals, demolishing buildings with his huge hands, ravaging of habitations had become his regular habits. He would throw large mountains dislodged by him into the sea and churn it using his illusory powers thereby forcing the sea to cross his natural limit. He could move at lightning-fast speed and take different forms as per his mood and will. His terror became so frightening day by day that people could not live peacefully. The whole world became horrified and restless. Nobody was able to worship and perform 'puja' or oblations.
One day he ventured into the garden situated on the hill of 'Raibat' where Lord Balaram was roaming with his beautiful wife and her maids. Seeing them the wicked monkey Dwivid started imitating Lord Balaram to mock and irritate him in front of the ladies. When Lord Balram forbade him he started teasing the ladies and harassing them. Now Lord Balram got furious with the devil monkey and challenged him. The monkey just wanted a fight with Lord Balram.
He attacked Lord Balram who retaliated instantly with his favourite and well-known weapons plough and pounder. The monkey dislodged nearby mountains threw at Lord Balram who broke the mountains into small pieces with his pounder. Now the devil monkey attacked with his powerful and huge hands and nails and Lord Balram also attacked back forcefully with his strong fists and powerful hands. The fierce duel continued for a long time. It was so brutal, horrid and frightening that the ladies lost their senses at the sight of it.
Lord Balaram is the incarnation of 'Shesha Naga' on whose thousand hoods rests the universe. His strength and might cannot be challenged by anyone except the 'Tridev'. Seeing the demon's unending destruction Lord Balram became furious and with rage punched a severe blow on the head of the monkey which made him vomit blood. Immediately the Lord struck again on the head and killed the devil monkey Dwivid. Seeing Dwivid being killed the Deities from heaven showered heavenly flowers on Lord Balram. Thus ended the terror of the devil monkey Dwivid.
