SWAYAMBHUV MANU

  Lord Brahma is said to be the creator of this universe. He has created this universe on the order of the Supreme Soul Lord Narayan. He was creating the universe through his miraculous power of thought. The living and nonliving world was supposed to be ruled by fourteen Manu. The first Manu is called Swayambhuv Manu. It is said that once the process of creation growth of the universe stopped for a long period. In spite of his sincere efforts Lord Brahma could not understand the reason behind the stoppage of the creation. So he became very worried. The thoughts of his failure continuously hunted him. He was thinking about the growth of the universe so intensely that his body converted into two pieces. One piece became a male and the other one became female. The male was named as Swayambhuv Manu and the female Satrupa. They were made the king and queen of the Universe. From that day physical reproduction of the living beings commenced.

Srimad Bhagavad Mahapuran
