Chandipaath Series (Chapter-4) --- Maa Durga Stuti by the Deities

Maharishi Medha continued the narration of SRI DURGA SAPTASATHI:-

The death of Mahisasur pleased the deities (देवगण). To show their gratitude to Goddess Durga they chanted a prayer (स्तुति). They bowed before the goddess and started chanting the prayer.


'Oh Devi, you are the unity of the divine energy of all the deities. You have pervaded the whole universe with your energy. We salute you with devotion. Please bless us. Whose power can't be described by Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar, she may kindly be pleased to destroy the fears of the whole world. You live in the home of pious people in the form of Laxmi, you live as poverty in the home of sinners, you live in the hearts of pure heartedly people as their intellect, inside honest people you live as shyness and politeness. We bow before you with respect. Please always do the needful for the whole population. We are unable to describe your greatness. You are the reason for the origin of the universe. You have all three qualities i.e Sattwa, Rajas and Tamas. Still, you are free from blemishes. You are the ultimate shelter of all. The whole universe is a part of your powers. Because you are the origin of mother nature. It is through the pronunciation of Swaha(स्वाहा), the deities receive the oblations offered in yajna (यज्ञ) and that स्वाहा Swaha is you only. Apart from this the ancestors(पितर) also receive the oblations offered by their sons through the pronunciation of the word ‘Swadha’. You are that transcultural (पराविद्या) wisdom through which the Rishis attend salvation. You are the power of sound(शव्द ब्रह्म). You are the origin of Rig, Yaju and Sam ‘Ved’ (वेद). You are the Devi, Trayi (त्रयी, तिनों वेद) and Bhagwati (छहो ऐश्र्वर्य से युक्त). You have manifested yourself as the livelihoods and agriculture for the upbringing of the people of the world. You are the destroyer of all the miseries and pains of the world. Through which the wisdom of the scriptures is learnt, that intellect is you. You are the boat to cross the devout sea (भवसागर, worldly life). You don't have any attachments. You live in the heart of Lord Narayan as goddess Lakshmi and Gouri Devi in Lord Shiva. The smile on your face like the moon and the golden colour of your body are so pleasant that nobody would want to harm you. But it is astonishing that Mahisasur attacked you. When you get angry your face and red eyes look so furious and frightening that nobody can dare to go near you. But Mahisasur was foolish to go near you at that time. Oh Devi you are the supreme goddess. When you are happy, the world rises and when you get angry many dynasties get wiped out like the army of Mahisasur. On whom you are pleased, he lives a life of glory. It is only because of your grace that good people go to heaven. You fulfil the wishes of the world and you erase the fear and poverty of human beings who worship you. You are always kind towards all. You even kill the demons and sinners with a good wish, so they can go to heaven after death. You have the power to turn anyone into ash. Still, you give them a chance to see you and get the opportunity to go to heaven after death. You are the only one who is both kind and cruel. Devi, please save us everywhere with the power of your sword, trident, bell and bow.


 Pleased by the prayer (स्तुति) of the deities, Durga Devi told them " Oh deities, tell me what you want. I will fulfil your wishes. 


The deities said "Oh Devi, you have already fulfilled our wishes by killing Mahisasur and other demons. We don't have any more wishes. We only pray for you to come to our rescue at the time of our need."
